The Applied Fire Science in Transition series consists of four monographs dealing in areas of interest to fire protection engineers and others concerned with the solution of current problems in fire safety analysis and design. Each volume includes a number of papers which have appeared in the Journal of Applied Fire Science and which have been written by world authorities in their respective fields of applied fire science. The subjects addressed represent problems and issues of fire science and associated technologies that are currently very much in transition.

Special Problems in Fire Protection Engineering, Volume IV features papers directed to fire protection in various environments other than building structures. These include fuel transporting vehicles, spacecraft, a sports arena, an offshore oil rig and propane fueling bus facilities.

Paul R. DeCicco brings to Applied Fire Science in Transition his experience in fire research and its applications to fire protection technology. His work in full-scale fire testing of commercial and residential buildings, conducted for the New York Fire Department, has been widely published and used in the development of building and fire codes throughout the United States and abroad. DeCicco is Executive Editor of the Journal of Applied Fire Science.
