AIMS & SCOPE
Family Violence & Ethnic Populations is a journal dedicated to the examination of family violence issues as they relate to ethnic populations across the globe. It is a research-, theory-, practice-, and policy-oriented journal, presenting tools, ideas, and methods that work for ethnic families, individuals, and groups to combat family violence. Theoretical foundations, intervention techniques, and prevention programs are featured to further improve our understanding of family violence in ethnic families and to increase our effectiveness in working with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence in these communities.

The Journal publishes empirical research on a wide range of family violence and ethnic population topics, including: family violence and cultural competence; intimate-partner violence—treatments and effects; health services and policies related to family violence; theories related to family violence in ethnic populations; prevalence of family violence among various ethnic populations; impact of culture on the prevalence of family violence in ethnic groups; patterns of violence against women in ethnic cultures; predictors of family violence among ethnic populations; barriers to providing psychological treatments to survivors in ethnic populations; and perpetrators of domestic violence.

FEATURES & DEPARTMENTS
Interviews with leading clinicians in the field of ethnic family violence and with social policy analysts on family violence policies related to ethnic groups.

Thematic Issues such as family violence interventions and outcomes in specific countries, and issues focusing on cultural idiosyncrasies contributing to the prevalence of family violence.

Departments including book/essay reviews and a clinical practice department that publishes take-away information that clinicians can use in working with ethnic populations.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Universities and colleges; women's shelters; men's battering prevention agencies; National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; U.S. Department of Agriculture-Safety, Health, and Employee Welfare Division; State's Attorney Offices; National Center of Domestic and Sexual Violence.


MEET THE EDITOR
Trent Nguyen, PhD, has experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods, assessment, program evaluation, and statistics for social and behavioral sciences. He has served on 35 thesis and dissertation committees, with research topics ranging from PTSD among war veterans to children in foster care. He is the editor of Domestic Violence in Asian American Communities and Many Paths, One Purpose: Career Paths for Social Work and Human Services Majors. Dr. Nguyen has published 30 research articles focusing on intimate-partner abuse among ethnic groups, Asian American youth identity development, and depression among the elderly population. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Emotional Abuse and the Qualitative Report; he also serves as an editorial reviewer for Journal of Family Violence, Violence Against Women, and Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment and Trauma.




CALL FOR PAPERS
Family Violence & Ethnic Populations a new peer-reviewed academic journal. The goal of this journal is to build a strong knowledge base on the topic of family violence occurring among ethnic populations worldwide. Submissions from authors/researchers across an interdisciplinary spectrum are welcomed, including but not limited to social workers, psychologists, anthropologists, sociologists, nurses, criminologists, and social scientists. Submissions from both established and young scholars are encouraged. Because of the cultural diversity among ethnic groups across the world, the journal is keen to encourage submissions from scholars focusing on diverse aspects of family violence. The editor welcomes manuscripts in the following areas:

  • Research articles that utilize quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method models in studying all aspects of family violence among ethnic populations around the world.
  • Clinical and research articles that examine specific complex cultural idiosyncrasies that account for family violence among ethnic groups.
  • Articles by practicing clinicians delineating their practice wisdom in treating ethnic populations struggling with family violence.
  • Book reviews and essays in which authors interview leading experts or clinicians working in the field of ethnic family violence.
